DAYTON, OH – Today, the hardworking members of the IUE-CWA union who are employed at General Electric have ratified a two-year extension of their national labor contract with the company. Under this extension (read the details here), workers will gain a 12% general wage increase while keeping all of the valuable language, benefits, and protections of their current contract.
Crucially, the agreement features a newly negotiated successorship clause that ensures the preservation of these hard-fought gains, as well as union recognition and rights, at the spin-off companies. The extension will take effect on July 1, 2023 and will continue through June 22, 2025, even after the upcoming split of General Electric into two separate entities: GE Vernova and GE Aerospace.
This achievement is the result of a national, multi-year campaign by thousands of GE IUE-CWA workers, including the historic October 2022 national unity rally in New York, which marked the largest multi-state action by GE workers in years. Union workers across facilities in Kansas, Kentucky, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and beyond have mobilized on the shop floor, collaborated with community allies and elected officials, and demonstrated the collective power of GE’s unionized workforce.
The resounding success of this negotiation is a testament to the unwavering strength and determination of IUE-CWA members in fighting for a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Looking ahead, the union will continue to press General Electric to halt the offshoring of American jobs and reinvest in existing domestic facilities. Additionally, the union continues to advocate for affordable healthcare, retirement security, and fair pay for all GE workers.
Jerry Carney, IUE-CWA Chair of the GE Conference Board statement:
“This is a major accomplishment for our union and our members. We have secured greater job security for our members, and this agreement provides peace of mind as General Electric undergoes its split into two separate entities. We have also secured significant wage increases and ensured that the contractual rights we’ve bargained over the years will remain intact despite this latest corporate restructuring. We will sit down again with GE Vernova and GE Aerospace management in two years, once they are done with their spin-offs. Without our collective efforts we couldn’t have achieved this success. It’s important to take a moment to celebrate this victory, but we must also remain committed to organizing and mobilizing for further improvements in the near future.”
